Public Plaza in Cascabel, Brazil
This urban development project
was headed by local architect Miguel Challol and required the
repurposing of a vacant lot and its conversion to a public plaza.
The space, situated in a fast-growing urban town in Rio Grade do Sul,
provides a tranquil respite from the motion that surrounds it.
Part of the project involved recounting the history of the region
through a series of panels that were set into the plaza’s retaining
walls. The landscape highlights local plant species while the
rounded, organic shape and disposition of the paths breaks the symmetry
and geometry of the otherwise predictable environment.
