Anthony House, Los Angeles, California
A hillside residence in the Los Feliz suburb of Los Angeles
needed its front entrance and patio rebuilt. TDS saw this as an
opportunity to enliven and expand the existing area making it more
suited for entertainment.
To achieve privacy in what is otherwise a very public area, the design
delimited the patio with built-in furnishings, such as benches (executed
in smooth cement), planters and landscaping. The most dramatic effect is
created by an arch over the entry walkway, immediately after crossing through
the street gate. The arch provides a virtual separation to the outside and also
serves as a fountain – water falls from one end of the arch into a spill-over
pool and is pumped back up.
The covered section of the patio houses outdoor fixtures and the open area is
composed of a wooden deck. Vibrant colors make the space sparkle and provide
for a delightful surprise when coming in from the monochromatic environment of
the street.
